Summer School

Many young North Island pipers and drummers will be very disappointed knowing that once more the RNZPBA Piping and Drumming Summer School will be held in Christchurch. Attempts were made by the Summer school committee to secure a Hamilton location for 2010 but due to cost or lack of reply no location could be found. Let’s hope next year they choose sunny Northland as there's plenty of choice at Whangarei. For those extra keen pipers and drummers here’s the link to find out more about the Class of 2010.

Summer School Info

The Waipu Highland Games is one of Northlands most iconic events and is the largest event of its kind in New Zealand.

The 139th Games will be celebrated on January 1 2010 heralding the new year. Ensure your support by making a calendar entry and bring the whole family to a day’s festivity of culture. Activities run throughout the day and include highland dancing, piping and drumming, athletics for all ages and highland heavyweight field events. Also at the park will be clan societies, genealogy, refreshments and family fun.

For WPB pipers and drummers this summers’s competitions at Waipu provide an opportunity to polish personal skills and pit themselves against the countries best. Now is the time of year players select their most competitive tune/score and build into serious practice. Competing in solo competition is the best way to sharpen performing skills and help ensure a playing position to compete in the WPB for the coming national championship.
